This unique Sculpterra red blend has it all! Sculpterra’s Figurine blend, awarded numerous high scores and gold medals, showcases the best of taste and structure. It is now certainly on par with the greatest red blends in the Paso Robles Appellation. Complexity is the best way to describe this wine. Never before have three unique wine varietals been combined to create such an effortless and lovely blend. This wine leads with fascinating cola-berry, chocolate cherry, and wild-red fruit aromas; but my favorite part is its bold yet balanced flavors showing full-bodied strata of grilled meat and smoked nuts, with a core of blackberry and blueberry pie crust. This is a crowd-pleaser, an easy-drinking, complex, distinctive, and full-bodied wine. Moderate tannins carry the flavors through a lasting finish. This wine will only get better with time, reaching its peak in the year 2027.
What makes this wine so special is the blend of Primitivo, Cabernet, and Merlot; three unlikely candidates in red blending, yet they work together flawlessly. This wine blends one lot of Primitivo, three lots of Cabernet Sauvignon, and one lot of Merlot. All grapes were destemmed, cold soaked, fermented, pressed, and aged at Sculpterra Winery. A predominant portion of this wine was fermented and aged in NEW 500L barrels, greatly adding to the wine’s intense yet soft mouthfeel. We elected to only rack these lots once post-Malolactic fermentation. Barrels were topped and tasted every six weeks and it was clear that blending these barrels would be the winning ticket. The Primitivo was the first to be harvested and we aged it in mostly new American Oak 500L Puncheon barrels. These three Cabernets stand strong alone but taste unbelievable when combined together. The Merlot was the first Bordeaux grape to be harvested in 2021 and contributed rich flavors, great depth, and an intense flavor. In total 945 cases were bottled after 16 months of oak barrel age.

The fruit is 100% estate grown on Frankel Vineyards, located right behind the Sculpterra Tasting Room and Sculpture Garden. The predominant player in this blend is Primitivo grown on the 8-acre Ridgeline block. This vineyard is speckled with limestone soils, steep topography, and limited irrigation. Our Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from three estate vineyards: “Bomba Vieja”, “Bentley Ironworks”, and “Autopista”. These Cab vineyards are cane-pruned and hand-manicured. The diversity in soils really shows itself with different ripening patterns and unique small berry sizes. Our Merlot vines, now twenty-five years old, are located on the “Hilltop” block. They produce fruit with tiny berries, limited to three tons per acre.
